1. I love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. 2. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live.3. The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.4. Then called I upon the name of the LORD; O LORD, I beseech thee, deliver my soul.5. Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful.Psalm 116:1-5 The psalmist sings this song how he loves Christ, the perfection of His nature, His holiness, His work of creation, His grace and mercy, and particularly His great love for us, shown in His redemptive work at the cross. He who made the ear can hear our voice. The voice of a submitted soul, He is quick to hear, the voice seeking salvation will not be ignored, though high above us He stoops to hear the very whisper, Christ I need you. I myself this day will call upon Him to act on all who love Him and need His help this day. Old age brings sorrows and thoughts of death, we wonder is all forgiven did I forget something? Again bringing more sorrows. But Christ's work is perfect leaving nothing undone. Then like the psalmist we call upon the LORD, He has given us the authority to use His name, Lord please deliver my soul. And now we have left our sorrows for joy unspeakable, for our Savior is gracious, not giving us what our sins deserve. But a merciful God, who has covered our sin in His own blood, and covered us with His Righteousness. He has paid what we owe, and opened the gates of eternal life. Now we to can sing, I love the Lord! Amen.
