7. And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.8. I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.9. And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan. 10. And straightway coming out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:11. And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.Mark 1:7-11 The author gives an account of Jesus's baptism. John is the cousin of Jesus. John speaking to those baptized saying he knows of someone who is greater than himself and that he is not worthy to do the simplest task for Him, speaking of Jesus. He continues that he has baptized them with water, but Jesus will baptize with the Holy Ghost. The meaning is John immersed those in water to repent from sin, and join us into the fellowship of Jesus's death, Jesus will immerse, or cover us with the Holy Ghost, without Him, I would say it is impossible to live for Christ, the Holy Ghost being a Comforter, Guide, Teacher. He is a witness of Christ and the Father, who convicts sin, and indwells believers, a revealer of God's thoughts. And an Intercessor. Having several gifts to bestow on us to aid in our journey. And this one day, John is preaching and baptizing, and Jesus comes, and is baptized by John, and as Jesus comes out of the water, the heavens open, and the Spirit descends like a dove on Christ. Christ receives the Spirit without measure in His human form. And the Father speaks from heaven declaring what Jesus means to Him, not that He is God's Son, from everlasting, but His beloved Son, who God laid the iniquity of every person on. Christ took this burden willingly and fulfilled God's will. This is found in Him saying to Jesus, "In whom I am well pleased." We cannot please God without Christ, we shall not see heavens reward without Him. This decision all make to receive or reject Christ have eternal rewards or punishments. Amen.
