45. Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
46. Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.
47. And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.
48. Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast.
49. And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.
Matthew 26:45-49
Jesus after the last supper together, told them one of them would betray Him, that they would all run away and leave Him. That Peter would deny Him three times. These men were with Him for three years. Their loyalty was very thin. Christ told them that He was very sorrowful, but they slept through His agony.
There shall be many like Judas at the end, even now some call themselves Christians but live like devils.
This traitor uses a kiss, a sign of affection, to identify Christ to the multitude, a group of people that we at odds with each other, but united to murder Christ.
Judas was one of the twelve, saw and spoke to Christ, and witnessed His healings and other miracles. But his heart did not belong to Christ, Judas sold the Savior of the world for thirty pieces of silver. Some of us have done it for less.
Jesus said many are called, and the invitation is to all, but few are chosen, for very few will give up everything to follow Christ. Amen.
