Steve Leidel (Member 58,643) spotted a mighty Cumulonimbus capillatus incus cloud looming over the Cascade Range from Rainier Beach, Seattle, US. Cumulonimbus is the storm cloud, and the capillatus form is when it has reached a mature phase of its growth. This cloud was doubtless shedding showers over the mountain range. Incus refers to the distinctive way the cloud’s top spreads outwards. Its Latin name means a blacksmith’s ‘anvil’, but this one appears more like the bow of a lost ship, run aground on the shore of nearby Lake Washington.
