Hydrogen at best is only a specialty fuel. If you put a whole bunch of energy into one gallon of water you get 1 part hydrogen and 2 parts oxygen. When you burn it you get your gallon of water back but you don't get as much energy output as what you put in the water to get the hydrogen.
