Unstoppable! 'Salvation' — Acts 2:21
Sunday, January 28, 2024
[Quoting the prophet Joel, Peter said to the crowd on Pentecost,]
'But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord
will be saved.'
— Acts 2:21 NLT
Key Thought
More than any gospel writer, Luke emphasized the theme of salvation. We should not be surprised when the focused destination of this world-changing Pentecost is, "But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." Salvation is God's goal for us. Salvation was Luke's focus in the unfolding story of Acts. The salvation of people was Jesus' passion in Luke's gospel. The salvation that God brings impacts all of life, both now and when Jesus returns. Salvation brings forgiveness, the Holy Spirit, and joy. Salvation also brings about a life change that aligns people with the work and will of Jesus. Without this change in alignment, called repentance, neither Luke nor Jesus would say salvation has really occurred. Salvation isn't just being saved FROM bad deeds, but it's also being saved FOR a life of joy, grace, and compassion as demonstrated by Jesus. No wonder salvation was one of the key elements of the early believers that made their message unstoppable!
TODAY'S PRAYER
O God, may the salvation of all people be our passion as your children. Open our eyes to the opportunity to bring salvation to others and to share in the joy of heaven when people turn their lives toward you, your lifestyle, and your future. In Jesus' name and for his glory, I pray. Amen.
