‘Let the world grow cold around us,
Let the heavens cry above!
Brigadoon, Brigadoon,
In thy valley, there’ll be love!’
From Brigadoon (1947), a Broadway musical with lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, in which two American tourists stumble upon a mysterious village that appears for only one day every century.
A patch of Stratocumulus castellanus in shadow beneath the canopy, or incus, spreading out atop a Cumulonimbus storm cloud, spotted over West Salem, Wisconsin, US by Diane Dippel (Member 55,209). Diane told us the scene reminded her of the mythical Scottish village of Brigadoon, said in the musical to emerge from the Highland mists only once every 100 years.
