16. And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?17. Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?18. But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.19. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornication, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: 20. These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.Matthew 15:16-20 The religious leaders of the law have accused the followers of Jesus of breaking the traditions of the elders. Jesus asks them why they transgress the commandments of God with their traditions. You see this going on this very day, where government and men violate the commands of God in favor of their own will. Jesus explains that eating with unwashed hands can not defile a person. Jesus explains that what comes from the mouth comes from the heart. This is what defiles a man. The eyes and ears are the leaning gates of men. But the tongue is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison says James 3:8. The heart is wicked and every sin is conceived there. It perverts the mind, and every kind of evil can be imagined there. This is what defiles men. It is sin. We can not change our heart of evil nor our evil nature, but Christ is able to do both, paraphrased from Charles H. Spurgeon. It is this born new experience that brings us into subjection to God's ways, and where we find a joy that lasts beyond time. Amen.
