Ruth Quist (Member 49,516) was visiting Charlo, Montana, US, which is in the Flathead Reservation just north of the Bison Range. There, she paused to watch the colours change with the setting Sun. The high layer cloud Cirrostratus still caught the last rays to form a deep orange backdrop for the smooth lozenge shapes of Altocumulus lenticularis clouds. Being mid-level clouds, the lower Altocumulus appeared a darkening purple in the Earth’s shadow. Like a woolly herd of bison, they gathered over the hills to settle in for the night, their dark backs catching the last pink glow of fading light.
