1. Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
2. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
3. Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
4. Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
5. Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.
Psalm 103:1-5
The psalmist here blesses God with his best part, the soul, given by God it shall return to Him. So the best we have of substance, of our person, our heart, is to be in service to our God.
And forget not His benefits, mercy, grace, salvation through Christ the Son, and the gifts of the Spirit. Which none will find without Christ.
The forgiveness and healing of the soul from every sin, even to the gross abominations we are capable of. The healing of the deadly disease of sin, which left to it's course will lead to destruction.
This redemption and lovingkindness and mercy, provided by Christ, is leading to life eternal. And we are satisfied from God with good things.
This renewal of life like an eagle is a spiritual renewal the eagle's life span is 70 years at 40 it's feathers are heavy, the beak has over grown making it hard to eat, the talons are over grown no longer flexible, now the eagle could just die, but it flies to the top of a mountain and for 150 days transforms, by breaking the beak on a rock and waiting for it to heal than it bites of the talons and waits for those to heal and plucks out all the useless feathers and waits for them to grow out. Now restored but by a painful ordeal it can live another 40 years. We are renewed daily as we put off the old man and nature and put on Christ, it is a battle and painful, but the reward is eternal. Amen.
