🚨 Lahaina Fire Update: ⚠️ Some residents whose homes were not burned down in the fires have been robbed of their belongings. Thieves have been sneaking into the burnzone in the middle of the night and robbing condos and homes while people are forced to remain in the hotels. ⚠️ Insurance agencies are now dropping claims of homeowners due to their homes being not up to code ⚠️ Residents are still being evicted out of the resorts due to paperwork issues. Some residents have been moved around multiple times at various resorts. Many have lost everything, including their address for mailing and their cellphone for communication. The Red Cross and FEMA keep having residents check in periodically to file that paperwork needed at that time, but dont give out information or notices to the residents that need to file this paperwork. Because of a lack in communication, the hotels have no choice but to kick out fire survivors and utilize their units for profits. ⚠️ Unemployment ends next month for most fire victims. There are no positions to move into that would offer a livable wage, and ones that do offer it are not hiring due to the downfall of our local economy ⚠️ Illegal evictions are still happening. Residents who can't work, are laid off, or are not receiving any financial aid will have until March to pay their bills and rent. Many have not been able to pay their rent for almost 6 months now and are deliberately and illegally being kicked out by their current landlords.
