4. And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:5. Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:6. And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 7. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:8. But others fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.Matthew 13:4-8 Jesus speaks to the people about a farmer, sowing seeds in his field. The farmer is Christ, the seed, the Gospel message, the ground is the hearts of those hearing. The word on the wayside is the heart with no understanding, and the devil comes and fills the heart with wickedness, so there is no remembrance of the Gospel. The word on the stony heart is one that hears, and it makes sense, but has not counted the cost for following Christ, and when it gets tough, they quit. The heart in the thorns is hearing the word, but judges what they must give up to succeed, and they never mature and become unfruitful. The heart of good ground hears the Gospel, trusting God, begins to understand what is expected, and is willing, this heart lives on the Gospel message, obeys the message, mature in the message, and begins to bear fruit, which is souls for Christ's kingdom. The hundredfold is a father or mother, of the Gospel to others, the sixtyfold is young people spreading the Gospel, and the thirtyfold is those who stay little children of the Gospel. Jesus says are you listening, you reap what you sow, your not going to get tomatoes if you planted potatoes. And what ever efforts you make in the spreading of Christ's message you will be rewarded accordingly. Amen.
