16. Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
17. But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;
18. And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
19. But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.
20. For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.
Matthew 10: 16-20
Jesus has given His disciples power to heal and cast out evil spirits. Sending them to the lost sheep of Israel.
And warns them that being away from the Shepherd, they will draw the attention of wolves. Men of the world, out of their own nation. And because of their actions and preaching Christ, they became targets.
So His advice is to be wise and careful to avoid the cunning and craftiness of men, and yet harm nothing, and be kind to all.
Jesus tells them that for all the good and healings and casting out demons, they are going to suffer.
And gives the assurance that when they are accused in front of rulers, be not afraid of what to say for their Father in heaven has sent His Spirit to speak in their place. We have the assurance of Christ's presence and the Spirit of the living God this day, as Christ sits at the right hand of the Father, making intercession for each of us. Amen.
