2. And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.3. And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,4. As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.5. Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.6. And I will make thee exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. Genesis 17:2-6 We have here God Almighty making a covenant meaning a contract or agreement between two parties. Here it is God, and His friend Abram. God being gracious and faithful to keep His word even though Abram was a man, and sinful, as all men are. Abram having no children, with Sarah his wife, his name meaning father, is given a new name Abraham meaning father of a multitude. And God kept His Word. For 12 tribes came from Ishmael, from Hargar, and 12 tribes came from Issac, from Sarah. Here God gives the institution of circumcision, as the token of the contract between God and Abraham. Included in this contract God promised to be his God and to his seed from Issac. Along with this promise, God tells Abraham in verse 8, And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be there God. Now you see what is said, and what is going on in Israel, but who can argue with God, who said, He gave Abraham descendants the land for an everlasting possession. God will never go back on His word, so those of us who hear Christ say I will never leave nor forsake you. We can believe we are His possession. Amen.
