6. And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7. If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
8. And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Able his brother, and slew him.
9. And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Able thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?
10. And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.
Genesis 4:6-10
The author writes this at the hand of God, seeing he was not alive to be witness.
Able brings a sacrifice from his flock and is accepted by God. Cain brings the fruit of the ground. It was not what was offered but how,
God asks questions but He fully knows the answer it is a test to see if truth will come forth.
God explains that his behavior is not favorable because of his attitude. Sacrifice must be offered in the proper way.
And, this is why his sacrifice was refused.
Cain is angry at his brother, who had nothing to do with the acceptance of the offering.
Now we see how we are born with evil in us no one taught Cain to lie to God or murder his brother it is already in us.
And as you can see in the text no one can hide any sin from God. This is why Christ came. And in this text and in your own heart, you can see how much we need Christ. Amen.
