1. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. 2. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
3. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
4. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
5. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
Psalm 51:1-5
The psalmist from his own experience, and relationship with God, knew how to approach Him when sin separated them.
God is not affected by our sin, He is no less God, and He is not a greater God if we do good.
It is we that bear the punishment.
All sin is against God's
commands.
And only He can forgive and cleanse us from it.
We came into this world as sinners, no one taught me to lie, or steal, it is in us.
And a holy God can not have fellowship with such.
This is why Christ came to save us. Everything before He came was a temporary fix. When Christ gave His life, He defeated Satan, sin, and eternal death, and made available forgiveness, restoration, and eternal life. His ways are not hard to follow if we remember, He is very close and paid a great price to redeem us. Amen.
