Wendy DeGraffenried (Member 4,275) helped the Cloud Appreciation Society develop a Survival Kit for the Imagination, a suite of resources that educators can use to teach their students about the sky and explore how clouds can help our emotional wellbeing. Wendy encountered this blazing sunrise over Wasilla Lake and the Chugach Mountain Range in Alaska, US on her way to deliver a session on mindfulness breathing strategies at a school in Matanuska-Susitna Valley. Aside from a few distant patches of Altocumulus, the clouds were mostly Cirrostratus nebulosus, a species of the high layer cloud identifiable through its total lack of any remarkable features. This is a reminder that even the most un-showy cloud can have its moment to shine. ‘As I left the school building,’ remembers Wendy, ‘after a joyful time teaching over a hundred students how to look inward and use their breath to find calmness and peace, I wondered how many new cloudspotters were created on the day that began with such a gorgeous orange sky!’
