A 22-degree halo is an optical phenomenon that appears as light refracts through ice crystals shaped as minuscule hexagonal columns gently tumbling through the air. Kyndra Buglione (Member 62,261) spotted this halo around the Moon over Bozeman, Montana, US. The ice crystals that formed the lunar halo were in a high layer cloud known as Cirrostratus. Cumulus clouds crossed before the Moon in shadow, as if on some nocturnal migration.
