One fine summer’s day in Jumilhac-le-Grand, Dordogne, France, Sophie Mancey-Jones (Member 55,332) looked up to see streaming Cirrus clouds. The central one looks to be a Cirrus altocumulogenitus, which means this ice-crystal cloud developed as all of the droplets in a patch of Altocumulus cloud froze and began to fall in a streak. Sophie imagined it as ‘a message from children’ in the form of a floating balloon. Perhaps it was one accidentally let go, along with wails and tears, vers le haut et loin – ‘up, up and away’.
