At sunrise in Golden Valley, Nevada, US, Danielle Bailey (Member 60,139) saw layers of Altocumulus lenticularis clouds. These can form as moist air in a stable atmosphere flows up and over raised ground, developing a wavelike flow. Lenticularis clouds form where the air cools most at the crests of these invisible waves. As the Sun rose, it lit Danielle’s mountain clouds like smouldering embers – as if to foreshadow the fiery heat that would hit the desert once the day reached its peak.
