Connecting a external generator to a small home dryer plug:
Potently a automatic / separate, dedicated connection, and switch is the way to go here (according to code), but the rules soften when attaching an appliance (stove, etc.) to an existing circuit outlet.
The cadaver in the mix, is the potential of shorting ALL your 120V electronics
.. -in the house!- ...
if you do it wrong.
PICK UP A LICENED, AND EXPERIENCED HOME CONSTRUCTION TECHNICION FOR QC, SPOTTER, AND SECOND SET OF HANDS FOR THIS (FIRST TIME ONLY REQUIRED)(?)
In your garage (or outside in my case) with a effective vent available, the dryer plug can be used to provide a source for any generator to feed the home in an emergency (my gen is rated for 12 hrs. operation before refuel).
YOU JUST NEED TO GET THE CONNECTING CABLE CORRECT!!!
(and connect it the home in a correct method (manual transmission type operation)...
The four contacts on -EACH- 220V plug need to be checked/rechecked as to the correct location to the contact voltage -ON EACH CONTACT- and 'QC'.
AFTER THE ABOVE IS COMPLETE:
1. OPEN the main breaker in the house (located at bottom of panel typically/the largest one).
2. Open ALL the breakers remaining on the panel (just open all of the breakers)
3. Plug in the gen/dryer plug replacement.
4. Start Generator (auto load adjusted presumed)
5. Close the 220 oven circuit to test 'polarity'/correct placement. With one hand/good shoes, turn on the oven. If the circuit breaker drops, start over!
6. close -1- wall outlet only circuit breaker and check with a light bulb / VOM (The 220 connection -SHOULD- align the 110 V correctly ,... but trust don't work here.
7. Close the other breakers as required.
DON”T RESET THE MAIN WITHOUT UNPLUGING THE CORD!!!
