8. The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.
9. He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.
10. He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. 11. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.
12. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.
The psalmist, by experience, knows the mercy and grace of the Lord. Mercy is not getting what you deserve, grace is the unmerited favor of God.
So we to know we were not destroyed in our sins. And through Christ we have been offered grace.
Yet through the word of God men have been reprimanded for sin.
But the perfect work of Christ, higher than our thoughts can imagine, has dealt with sin in a victorious way.
Christ's sacrifice, removed sin as far as the east is from the west, because God knows we are but dust, He has put sin out of His sight for those covered in Christ's righteousness. And having removed our transgressions, the punishment is no longer in effect.
We are all able to obtain this everlasting mercy through the blood of Christ. Amen.
