20. Though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter, they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.21. For thus saith the Lord God, How much more when I send my four judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the noisome beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast?22. Yet, behold, therein shall be left a remnant that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings: and ye shall be comforted concerning the evils that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it.23. And they shall comfort you, when ye see their ways and their doings: and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord God. God speaking to the prophet Ezekiel, to the leaders of Israel. Because of idolatry and being warned they refused to stop. Now judgment comes from God. And if these three men were in this sinning land, they alone would escape with their lives, and no other. Not for their righteousness or obedience, for no man can save himself, but because they knew and trusted Christ. This book written over 500 years before Christ's birth. Noah prepared an ark at the will of God and saved his family during the flood. Daniel, during the captivity, saved his companions and other wisemen. Job, prayed for his friends and saved them from destruction. Noah was a preacher of righteousness, Daniel experienced Christ as the one that shut the lions mouth, Job 19:25 says, he knew his redeemer lived and He would walk on the earth. These men, knew the salvation of Christ, but if there were in Jerusalem they alone would be saved. The Lord would not be entreated by these good men. But though destruction was sure, yet God saves a few to carry on as His inheritance by His mercy. And the people will be comforted, but they shall know that God was Righteous and Just in His judgment, that He was sufficiently provoked by their idols and it was necessary for His honor and the good of others. This is sure none shall know destruction that know Christ. Amen.
