Ying Wang was struck by this formation of Cirrocumulus floccus clouds while visiting the Solar Observatory at the Huairou Reservoir in Beijing, China. She showed her photo to Yanping Wang (Member 52,913), who invited her to share the autumn scene with the Cloud Appreciation Society. This species of Cirrocumulus cloud is named with the Latin word floccus, which means a ‘tuft of wool’ or ‘nap of cloth’, because its elements, or cloudlets, have soft, indistinct edges. The cloudlets in Ying Wang’s example were arranged into fingerprints across the blue. The branches of the trees, dressed in festive colours, reached up as if to compare hand with hand.
