1. I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2. Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.
3. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4. And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
5. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.
2 Timothy 4:1-5
This is Paul's last instructions to his assistant and companion in the faith Timothy.
Paul is coming to the end of his journey on earth, and earnestly asks Timothy, before God, and the Lord Christ, to continue to preach God's word.
To prepare to reprove, rebuke, men who rebell against God, and exhort those who live according to God's word.
Warning Timothy that the time is coming, which in our time is already here, where people have turned their back on God, and followed after their own pleasure, seeking teachers, that teach what they want to hear instead of the truth.
Paul encourages Timothy to be vigilant in his work of spreading the Gospel message, and endure the afflictions that come with it, and stay faithful to Christ, which is the proof of any minister, that he is a true follower of Christ our Lord. Amen.
