When we think of the mid-level layer cloud Altostratus, we picture featureless grey blankets that smother the whole sky. But Charles McDonald (Cloud Appreciation Society Member 55,390) spotted a wavy Altostratus undulatus sunrise glowing gold over Sydney, Australia. This is proof that even the least glamorous of cloud types can sometimes put on a show.
