///@astrofalls: The heart of the Milky Way, from some of the darkest skies on Earth.
There is a lot going on in this photo! Hundreds of emission nebulae, star forming regions, dark nebula, reflection nebulae. This list goes on and on. Simply put, this is our home galaxy; uncorrupted by light from industrial civilization. As nature intended it to be seen.
The faint glow on the horizon originates from the emission of gasses in our own atmosphere. Sodium and nitrous oxide.
In the foreground is the famous goblin valley. This is a unique valley marked by thousands of hoodoo rocks, created from the erosion of rock on top of a softer sandstone. The sandstone here was deposited some 170 million years ago in the Jurassic period.
This photo is a 17 pane mosaic at 40mm focal length, all captured at night from the parking lot of goblin valley.
I hope you enjoy the image! Next year me and @clanger_mcbanger will be teaching some astrophotography out here ;)
