1. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling symbol.2. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.3. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.4. Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunted not itself, is not puffed up,5. Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;6. Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;1 Corinthians 13:1-6 Paul speaks of charity, here the word in Greek, is agape, defined, it is the highest form of love, it is the love of God for man, a man's love for God. It is a self-sacrificing love, example, Christ dying in our place. To have all the knowledge to speak, in any language, and have not this love, it is just empty noise, without grace, spiritual life, with no virtue. To understand all mysteries, as the the trinity, the nature of the divine and human, united in Christ, salvation, resurrection, justification, to know all, and have not this love, it is worthless. To sacrifice all wealth, and one's own life, and have not this love, is for nothing, there will be no reward. We are not born with this kind of love, it comes from God, it is shown in Christ, it comes with the regeneration of the spirit of men, it must be put into practice, it is strengthen when the flesh and the old nature are put under subjection to Christ. Those who have this love, Christ is in them, and works through them, and their reward is sure. Amen.
