6. Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand;
7. To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people;
8. To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron;
9. To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the LORD.
Psalm 149:6-9
This song written about 515 years before Christ's birth, at the dedication of the temple, spoken of in Nehemiah and Ezra.
We are going to study verse 6, for it is for every believer.
Israel was called to battle against the ungodly nations, carrying the Ark of the Covenant, and singing praise to the Lord.
We are in a battle against evil, we have allowed things, which are abominable to God, because we kept silent.
Before we enter battle we must, Praise the Lord, for His holiness, power, faithfulness, glory, honor, mercy, grace, salvation, pardon, His redemption paid, in His blood.
The two-edge sword, is the Word of God, one edge is the law, it reproves sin, condemning it with death, exposes the corruption of men, having no mercy, judging only guilt or innocence.
The other edge is the Gospel of Christ, which reveals men's guilt of sin, the punishment deserved, and salvation, though the sacrifice of Christ. The sword is the only offensive weapon in our armory. It is mighty, when used by God, it can do nothing by itself. In the hands of the saints of God, it will, withstand error, maintain truth, and repel the temptations of Satan, and how can you use it, if you know not the Word.
Christ, makes ordinary men and women, warriors, through His Word, and they shall not be defeated. Amen.
