2. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.
3. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
4. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
5. The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.
Psalm 121:2-5
The psalmist declares, that his help comes from the Lord, so does ours. He that made the heavens, can do all things, in times of trouble, Christ is our ever present help.
His grace and salvation, is the guard over the faithful, Christ will not allow us to fall to destruction, He is there as a Shepherd, to guide us back into His way.
The keeper of Israel, shall not sleep. This is Jacob, renamed, Israel by God. It means, contender, soldier of God, given to him, after struggling with the angel all night, Genesis 32:28. Because he prevailed with God and men. And God kept him as the apple of His eye, and prospered him, in life, and family.
Now the psalmist says, the Lord, is our keeper. Christ is our keeper, sent by the Almighty. We are able to trust in all things, for Christ is God, and He cannot lie.
As He watched over Jacob (Israel), so shall He watch as a Shepherd over His flock to keep us safe, till we join Him in His Kingdom. Amen.
