1. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
2. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
3. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
4. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightiest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
Psalm 51:1-4πŸ™πŸ»
The psalmist under the burden of sin, instructs us. He acknowledged his transgression, unlike Adam and Eve, which thought they could hide from the Almighty, what they had done.
He shows his knowledge of Christ, in that he trusts, that after confessing, he will be made clean, his sin blotted out of remembrance, a right standing before God, restored to him. Total forgiveness.
We sin only against God, and sin reaches out and affects those around us. Giving the ungodly a reason to speak against us.
It is because of the mercy of God, we have not been consumed in the very act of our disobedience.
And the love of God for us, has been shown, that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us, paying our debt for sin. Amen.
