#Repost///@wealth: Scientists have successfully revived a worm that had been frozen for 46,000 years in the Siberian permafrost. The worm, belonging to a new species named Panagrolaimus kolymaenis, was found 40 meters below the surface and survived in a state of cryptobiosis, a dormant condition where metabolic rates decrease to an undetectable level. Researchers discovered that this worm and another commonly studied organism, C. elegans, share a biochemical pathway involving the sugar trehalose, which could enable them to endure freezing and dehydration, providing insights for conservation biology and understanding extreme conditions.
