1. Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.2. And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.3. And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)4. And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.5. Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. Acts 12:1-5 ππ» This is Herod Agrippa, grandson of Herod the Great, that slew the infants at Bethlehem. He killed James the son of Zebedee, who Jesus told, that he would be baptized by the death of a martyr, being the first, among the apostles. And wicked men, seek to please people with their evil deeds. Herod took Peter and put him in prison, with a group of 16 soldiers, two chained to him, and two outside the door to keep it sure, during the four watches of the night. But the plans of evil men have no power against Almighty God, and God, set him free, as Christ, is still setting captives free from sin this very day. Amen.
