Under absolutism, people have no way to appeal or defend their rights, making their situation worse than if there were no government and they had to defend their rights on their own.
Locke argued that it is much better to be in a state of nature than to submit to the unjust will of another. He believed that a ruler insisting on inflicting arbitrary rule over their subjects would be met with resistance.
