1. Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of the Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene,
2. Annas and Caiaphas being high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.
3. And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;
4. As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his past straight.
5. Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;
6. And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
Luke 3:1-5 πŸ™πŸ»
Luke in his gospel, has given an accurate time line, of the occurrences, by naming the rulers of region at the time.
And as the prophet Isaiah spoke in Isaiah 40:3, so it has come to pass.
John the Baptist is the voice crying in the wilderness, "Prepare ye the way of the Lord," the proof of a prophet, is that, the prophesies come to pass.
This verse of mountains and valleys, crooked, straight, rough, and smooth, are a picture of men.
Christ is Victor, over the sins of men, some in high places, some in low. The crooked man, Christ can make straight. And the rough man smooth.
This was Christ's mission. And John's was to tell His coming, and for the people to prepare their hearts, by turning from sin to Christ.
All flesh shall pass, and see Christ, either as Saviour, or as Judge.
The time is now for there is no repentance in the grave. Today is the day. Amen.
