34. And saith unto them, My soul is exceedingly sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.
35. And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
36. And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup for me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
37. And he cometh, and finding them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? coldest not thou watch one hour?
38. Watch ye and pray, least ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
Mark 14:34-38
Christ enters into the garden where He often prayed. Taking His closest disciples, Peter, James, and John.
And He prays the Father, that if this suffering that was before Him, could be taken away, let it be so, but not what Christ wanted, but what the Father wanted, this was why He came as a man, to this earth.
And He finds them sleeping, Peter especially who had just asserted so much love to Christ.
Christ speaks to Peter, and also to us. The spirit is truly (ready) this word in Greek, means willing, but the flesh is weak. Peter had before professed that he would never deny Christ, yet he sleeps, when the Lord needed him.
Christ was truly a man, and we are flesh and blood, Christ is warning us, the flesh is easy prey for Satan.
Take note, how many of us are sleeping. A little reading of the word of God, time spent in church on Sunday, does not provide sufficient protection against Satan.
The spirt must be strengthened above the flesh, to stand fast with Christ, filled with God's Spirit.
Christ came, and was obedient to the Father, even as a man, He sought nothing but His Father's will, we must do likewise. Amen.
