1. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.2. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.4. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.5. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.6. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. Psalm 23:1-6 The psalmist here shows his understanding and knowledge of Christ. The psalmist was a shepherd himself, and knows all the duties. The shepherd leads, feeds, protects, his flock. How much more Christ, over His own. Christ will gives us rest in green pastures, and still waters. Sheep need at least 1.5 to 3 gallons of water a day, and though they can swim, their wool absorbs water, making moving water dangerous. Only the Good Shepherd, can restore your soul. And lead in the paths of Righteousness, for He sinned not. We all must traverse the valley of death some day, yet if you are in Christ, you will enter your eternal reward. In life, The Shepherd, guides, and corrects, with His staff, The Word of God. Consider how safe can one be, though surrounded by enemies, can sit down and be fed. The psalmist felt safe in Christ. He also felt that he was Christ's special guest, the oil, a picture of joy, he being anointed of God, and his joy in Christ over running. When one is surrendered to Christ, goodness, and mercy, follows, in life, and in death, we shall ever be with Jesus. Amen.
