26. And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
27. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
28. For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
Matthew 26:
26-28 πŸ™πŸ»
This is the passover supper, and the bread, and the cup, are a picture of Christ's suffering and death.
Christ invites His disciples to share the meal with a clearer meaning of it's elements. Judas has left the table and does not share in the richness of this blessing.
Christ was beaten, humiliated, and suffered shame, because He was treated like a criminal because He said the Almighty was His Father.
But that does not pay our debt to sin. Hebrews 9:22, talks of shedding blood for remission of sin.
The sacrifice of blood on the alter, is a picture of Christ.
In verse 28, the word remission, in Greek is aphesis, it means, forgiveness or pardon of sins, in letting them go as if they had never been committed, and if never committed, than also no penalty.
This was Christ's purpose for coming to earth, and He fulfilled the law to the letter. Now we in Christ, are declared not guilty. Amen.
