1. Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.2. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.3. They that were foolish took the lamps, and took no oil with them:4. But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.5. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.6. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.7. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.8. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. Matthew 25: 1-8 ππ» This parable illustrates the Church at Christ's return. The ten virgins represent the followers of Christ, who have the same appearance outwardly, but differ in the inner spirit. Most will proclaim Christ as Lord on that day. Yet how many have prepared for Him coming. How many have their treasure in heaven. The bridegroom is Christ, there is no denying. And He is coming for the faithful. Many are called, few are chosen. Christ has redeemed His bride. The lamps, may be considered, the Word of God, the Gospel, the doctrines of Christ. The wise, this word in Greek is phronimos meaning, mindful of one's interests. They know Christ, and love Him, and have filled themselves with the oil of gladness, His Word, His example, they follow in His steps. And they shine, and Christ is their Light, and they shall shine for eternity. The foolish, this word in Greek is moros, meaning, impious, godless, those who reject salvation. They have an appearance of being godly, but lack the commitment to Christ, and follow not in His steps. These lamps go out, because the Light of the world, Christ, is not in them. And Christ's words to them in verse, 12, when they ask Him to open the door, "Verily I say unto you, I know you not." These words, are the judgment on the ungodly, they are not my words, I am just a messenger. Amen.
