1. Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.2. O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah.3. But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him.4. Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. 5. Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD. Psalm 4:1-5 ππ» The psalmist has the assurance that God hears him. Covered in the Righteousness of Christ, he addresses God in this manner. This especially when in the distress of sin, we may call upon God for mercy, mercy is not getting what we deserve for sinning. The glory of God is Christ and the Gospel message, we are undeserving of Christ's blood to cleanse us from sin. But grace the unmerited favor of God has been extended to us. Men shamed the glory of God, in Christ, by denying Him, as the Son of God, the Messiah, Saviour, His own people murdered Him. The vain actions of the wicked are to ruin or destroy any interest in Christ, and the greatest lie, is that you can get to heaven without Christ, without repentance, just keep being a good person. The Lord has set His apart from others, because how can a man be good, and not washed from his sins. Stand in awe, before God, be afraid, and terrified of sin, be still at night and ponder what controls your heart. To live for Christ is a sacrifice, for He alone is Righteous, and in His death, He has paid our debt, and covered us, with His Righteous Blood. Put all your trust in that alone. Amen.
