44. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45. That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and the unjust.
46. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47. And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
48. Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
Matthew
5:44-48πŸ™πŸ»
These are the words of Christ. They are not to be dismissed. In its literal form it is forgiveness, which if we receive, we show our faithfulness in that we forgive others, in some cases it is difficult. My son at 40 was murdered in 2019, and I must forgive the man, that did it.
Love covers everything, it does not remember past harm, but remembers, the God who forgave us.
Christ came to God's people to break the bondage of sin, they refused Him, and so He sent His disciples into the world, to convert those who would believe.
We must do likewise.
This word perfect, teleios, in Greek, does not mean sinless, but complete, if you love only those you know, or greet only your friends, it is not complete in the love of God. Christ died even for those who refused Him. What we received from God, His forgiveness, His love, His grace, His pardon, we should sincerely share with all men. Amen.
