I'm the kid in the top row, fourth from the left. Man, does time fly! I still feel like that kid right up until I look in the mirror and see my Dad!
Second photo: Me on the machine gun, Charlie Coates on my left and Al Fleischel on my right. We were lucky - right in between the Korean war and Vietnam.
Third photo is me and my Dad in 1977. He had just retired and I had just been promoted to Fire Lieutenant. His badge number from 1947 to 1977 was 170; I was issued the same badge he wore for all those years. My younger brother was promoted after I retired and was able to get the same badge number, and our nephew, Nick, is now on the job and also got promoted to lieutenant and was given the same badge number that his grandfather and his two uncles wore.
