1. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or tinkling symbol.
2. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
3. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
4. Charity suffered long, and is kind; charity envieth not, charity vaunted not itself, is not puffed up,
5. Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
6. Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in truth;
7. Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
1 Corinthians
13:1-7 πŸ™πŸ»
Paul explains a more excellent way, being love. The word charity in Greek is agape, it is translated, affection, good-will, love, benevolence. He especially means the highest form of love, the love of God for man and man for God.
God showed His love for man, through Christ, putting the judgment of sin on Him, so we could be declared not guilty.
We are also called to love God, and man.
Therefore Paul explains, though we could speak every language, and converse with angels, and have all gifts of the Spirit, make extraordinary sacrifices, and not have love for God, or our fellow man, it is meaningless, there is nothing to gain.
Then Paul shows, love in action, beyond words.
We are challenged, to put these traits into practice in our daily walk, as Christ did in His.
There is no love without sacrifice, without out effort, it does not come by chance, it is action, that supercedes emotions, and directs behavior to be pleasing to God. Amen.
