Government’s Leadership:
Because they see the role of government differently, Obligated Conservatives (OCs) and Entitled Liberals (ELs) also prefer individuals of different moral characters to serve as government leaders. But, before citing examples that illustrate those differences, please allow me to first relate part of the story of Crazy Horse and the morally good people of the Oglala Sioux Tribe.
Crazy Horse (1840 – 1877) was a courageous Indian leader who fought against white confiscation of Indian lands and for the preservation of their traditional way of life. Along with Sitting Bull and Spotted Tail, Crazy Horse led the Sioux victory over Custer’s 7th Cavalry at Little Big Horn in the early summer of 1876 – the year of America’s centennial celebration.
By the late 1850s and 1860s, Crazy Horse had distinguished himself in several battles as a brave and brilliant warrior. In 1868,in appreciative respect for his moral character, the Oglala Tribe bestowed upon him the prestigious honor of “Ogle Tanka Un” or Shirt Wearer.
Later, in 1871, Crazy Horse behaved in a way that the Oglala people perceived as selfishly immoral. He had an affair with a married woman, Black Buffalo Woman, Chief Red Cloud's niece. Interestingly, the members of his tribe quickly stripped him of his leadership role as “Ogle Tanka Un.”
Conservatives - in a way that is similar to the Oglalas - also expect their leaders to have strong moral characters. OCs are attracted to candidates who have made sacrifices to vigilantly protect the LTN rights of others. Just during my lifetime, conservative presidential candidates have included:
DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (Republican President 1953 to 1961) was a five-star U.S. Army general who was appointed Supreme Commander of Allied Forces during World War II. Under his leadership, Allied Forces successfully invaded the Normandy beaches on June 6, 1944 (D-Day) and advanced to defeat Nazi Germany in the Spring of ‘45.
GEORGE H .W. BUSH (Republican President 1989 to 1993) enlisted in the U.S Navy on his 18th birthday and upon his commission was the youngest naval aviator. During a September 1944 bombing mission against a Japanese installation, Bush’s plane was hit by enemy fire, and both of his crew members were killed. While floating at sea, he was miraculously rescued by a U.S. Navy submarine. In all, Bush piloted 58 combat missions during WWII, and, for his bravery, he received the Distinguished Flying Cross among other honors.
ROBERT “Bob” DOLE (1996 Republican nominee for President) was serving as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division when his “I” Company was ordered to attack Hill 913 in the Apennine mountains near Bologna, Italy. During the assault, Nazi machine-gun fire ripped through his back and right arm. Dole – whose recovery would require nine operations and over 3 years of VA hospital recuperation – received the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts for his sacrifices.
JOHN S. McCAIN III (2008 Republican nominee for President) For McCain’s Vietnam era sacrifices, please see “Story # 5” in Essay 2, “Same ‘Love Thy Neighbor’ Professed Morality,” section 2.07.
Just as OCs support candidates with obligated moral characters, so do ELs support presidential nominees with entitled ones. Their preference stands true even in those political environments where it’s obvious that the rights of the innocent will be violated.
(Remember, in 1925, Hitler published Mein Kampf in which he outlined his thoughts on world domination and Jewish moral inferiority. Despite this character revelation, eight years later, with adequate support and little opposition from the entitled German people, Adolph took the reins of the German government. Knowing his moral character, there’s no way that the Oglala Sioux would have empowered Hitler – or even Bill Clinton for that matter.)
WILLIAM J. CLINTON (Democratic President 1993 to 2001) The entitled moral character of our liberal President was exposed by his repeated misuse of his elected power to sexually abuse Monica, Paula, Juanita, Kathleen Wiley, and God only knows how many other girls and women. And for Clinton’s Vietnam era rationalizations, please see “The Vietnam War” in Essay # 3, “Moral Character and Human Behavior,” section 3.06.
BARACK H. OBAMA (Democratic President 2009 to 2017) made his liberal bones while serving as an Illinois State Senator from 1997 to 2004. During his term, he successfully led the liberal fight to defeat the “Illinois Born Alive Act.” This law would have required hospitals and clinics to provide sustenance and medical treatment to any baby who miraculously survived a botched abortion. Despite emotional and convincing evidence that such babies were simply being abandoned to die by the denial of food and care, our heroic future President stood his ground citing that the law would impose an unjust “burden” on mothers who had already made the courageous decision to dispose of their child. (I guess it never occurred to the compassionate socialist community organizer that we might create a program whereby the sacred and sovereign children of botched murder attempts might be adopted by loving families.)
P.S. The born alive Gianna Jessen is an American pro-life advocate. The talk she delivered at Queen’s Hall Parliament, Victoria, Australia is currently available (as of 7/18/21) for viewing on YouTube under “Gianna Jessen Abortion Survivor in Australia Part 1 and Part 2”. (Hopefully, as of the date you’re reading this, they haven’t yet deleted this video.)
If you voted for Obama, I dare you to please sit through Gianna’s 15-minute testimonial. And, if you have the courage to do so and then don’t regret your vote, then frankly, you scare the hell out of me.
JOHN F. KERRY (2004 Democrat nominee for President) and JOSEPH R. BIDEN Jr. (Democratic President 2021 to present) Both liberals are highly admired for their rationalization that one’s overriding duty to obey one’s government supersedes the convictions of one’s conscience. (This liberal doctrine is referred to as the Eichmann Defense in Essay 4, Section 4.10.)
HILLARY R. CLINTON (2016 Democrat nominee for President). She is the proud recipient of the Margaret Sanger Award (for genocide) as described under Social Element 11 as well as the staunch defender of her rapist husband. (Sanger is the disgusting racist founder of Planned Parenthood.)
Note re Obama’s Moral Character:
The heroic sacrifices that McCain made during the Vietnam war earned him the appreciative respect of OC Americans and surely contributed to his nomination as the Republican candidate for president in 2008. However, not all Americans thought so highly of Senator McCain.
Note: To the delight of his liberal supporters, his Democratic opponent, Barack Obama, made a hysterically funny gesture when referring to McCain at a campaign rally in November 2008. Please internet search “Obama flips off McCain,” images.
(I remember making such a thinly disguised display when I was in the 4th grade. Although, I’m sure that most of my classmates thought I was really cool, Sister Saint Martin was not so impressed.)
