2. For If Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
3. For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
4. Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
5. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
6. Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,
7. Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
Romans 4:2-7
Abraham was called a friend of God. And being a hundred years old, was promised a son by God. And he believed God.
And his faith was counted as righteousness before God. Being a gift of grace. Which is defined as the free unmerited love and favor of God. It is unobtainable by works, seeing it comes from God as a gift.
Work is rewarded by wages. And Paul is showing that we cannot earn salvation, but it comes free from Christ, who paid it's price, and there is none born in this world that can accomplish this but Christ the Son of God.
Now a gift does not become yours till you receive it. So is salvation, the price is paid, you can do nothing, but receive it. And when you do, you will no longer be the same, you have become a child of God, and this world will no longer have the same attraction, seeing, you have been given a new heart and spirit. Amen, thank you Jesus.
