View MoreThis is from a good friend of mine who is living just outside of Ukraine in Poland and it just happened about an hour or 2 ago.....there was a car accident on the way involving the people we were comitted to helping. They were evidently unhurt in the accident - but the car was damaged. But - - - Here comes the kicker. When we met at the designated hotel downtown Białystok where we were to make the pickup - it quickly became evident that the Mother had something totally else in mind with being a refugee here. As we live about 4 miles outside the city in a big house on a dirt Road on farmland near the edge of a big forest where you have to take a bus into town, we are not living Urban life - but still are only 15 minutes from the city center. The buses however run regularly and we offered to drive her whenever possible plus provide food and immediate help to find schooling for the girl. But that was not good enough for the distressed and increasingly agressive Mother. It was over half a mile to the grocery store And almost 500 yards to the busstop which was unacceptable. She was very displeased with the entire situation and what she was offered. And she demanded to be immediately transfered to a City apartment where there were people around her and where she had private living quarters (we offered her an entire floor with 3 rooms including a kitchen plus a bathroom). She said in a condensating manner that she down right "refused to go live with these country people". My wife and me looked at each others and realized that there are all kinds of people för all kinds if situations and that this hopefully was the exception and not the rule. We felt very bad for the poor 6 year old girl that was very pale. And also extremely exhausted. They were also from Kharkov, one of the worst war-ravaged cities in Ukraine right nów, maybe THE worst. Probably both very stressed out with bad memories. The charity people were hugely offended and deeply apologetic to us, but we just said we still have space available for others if they need it and we will help in any way possible. Kind of a strange and disappointing outcome, but Such is apparently life in the 2020s. Wishing you a great weekend...
