23. And when he into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?24. And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things.25. The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him?26. But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet. 27. And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said unto them, neither tell I you by what authority I do these things. Matthew 21:23-27 The priests and judges, assigned to this temple, approach Christ, and ask Him, by what authority He cast out the money changers, and merchants, out of the temple. If He said of God, they would arrest Him for blasphemy. If He said of men, they would arrest Him, because no rulers of the synagogue, gave Him any authority. Now Jesus presents a question to them to answer, before He answers them. The baptism of John, for the repentance of sin, never heard of before John, was it from God, or men. They know the answer, but refuse to tell the truth, for which ever direction they go, they are judged, by God, or men. The wisdom of God, is high above carnal men. Christ avoids the trap laid out by the religious leaders, because they would not answer Him, He was free from their question. Choose Christ, He is the Way, He is the Truth, He is the only source of eternal Life. Amen
