1. At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
2. And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,
3. And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter the kingdom of heaven.
4. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 18:1-4πŸ™πŸ»
Prior to asking Jesus who will be the greatest in heaven, the disciples, were disputing among themselves, thinking that of all men, one of them would be above all.
Jesus puts a small child in front of them, old enough to come when called, but to young to think much of himself.
When Jesus mentioned, converted, this is not the born again experience, the people believed Christ would set His kingdom up, here on earth, and until they were filled with the Spirit on Pentecost, they were concerned about money, a place in the kingdom, who would be in charge, and all the clutter, that invades the mind and heart.
For in heaven, there is only room for one ruler, there will be no need for competition, no pride, sorrow greed.
The child trusts the adult. We should trust Jesus, John's gospel, chapter 1.
states Christ is God, He made all things, He has been with the Father since the beginning.
Keeping close to Christ, keeping the world at bay, allows us to focus on the eternal, instead of this life which has a expiration date, and passes so quickly. Amen.
