Dangerously cold conditions are expected this morning, as wind chills drop to 30 to 40 below zero. If you will be outdoors, even for a short period of time, be sure to wear several layers of clothing, and cover all exposed skin to prevent frostbite. Wind Chill Advisories and Warnings are in effect.Sunshine and ice melting agents resulted in partial melting of some of the snow and ice that was on area roads, parking lots, and sidewalks yesterday. That water refroze overnight, resulting in patches of glare ice and very hazardous driving conditions. Some of the worst conditions were reported in central Wisconsin, including the Wausau, Mosinee, Marshfield and Stevens Point areas, where roads and highways were ice covered.Commuters should use extreme caution this morning. Be prepared for the possibility of encountering icy pavement, especially in urban areas where ice melting agents were used to treat the roads. Drive at a safe speed, and be sure to maintain adequate distance between your vehicle and others on the road. Be especially cautious when approaching intersections, as it may be difficult for you or other vehicles to come to a complete stop.If your car becomes stranded, stay inside the vehicle and call for assistance. Extreme cold and wind chills as low as 30 below to 40 below zero could lead to frostbite in as little as 10 minutes this morning.A dangerous combination of wind and cold is expected at times throughout the upcoming week. Wind chills will drop to 25 below to 35 below zero or lower each night, possibly reaching 50 below zero or lower on a few nights.
