In Like a Lion
Well, since we had some really nice, Springlike days near the end of February, this morning feels like the blast of a roaring lion, not the gentle exhaling of a lamb.
My mom would always quote the saying for the first day of March and the end of March. "In like a lion, out like a lamb" which was supposed to mean the cold beginning was actually a good sign or a mild end to the month.
And the "in like a lamb, out like a lion" warned that though the month may start out warn, cold days would creep back in.
I find March to usually be a very fickle month, freezing us one minute and teasing us with warmth the next.
The sun is closer to us in the Northwoods than it has been for a while, so it actually feels like warmth is attached to it, at times, even on the colder days.
But the wind has a habit of kicking up and blowing away any warmth it may have shared.
But, I take heart that the cold of today will not stay forever, and is still warmer than it had been for weeks before our short February thaw.
Winter has not said good-bye, but Spring is on the way!
